How are dress shoes in the U.S. Navy laced?

0

Dress shoes in the U.S. Navy are laced with a plain, straight-strand shoe lace. The shoe laces are black in color and have a round cross section. The ends of the shoe laces are waxed to prevent fraying and unraveling.

The straight-strand shoe laces are threaded through eyelets on both sides of the dress shoes. A man's dress shoe generally has six eyelets on each side, while a woman's dress shoe may have four or five eyelets on each side.

The first pair of eyelets closest to the tip of the shoe are called "quarter" eyelets because they are located about one quarter of the way down from the top of the shoe. The next pair is called "half" eyelets because they are located about halfway down from the top of the shoe. The third pair is called "three-quarter" eyelets because they are located three quarters of the way down from the top of the shoe, while the last pair is called "full" eyelets because they're located at almost exactly at the bottom of your heel bone on your foot inside your shoe (the Achilles tendon).
